Jigawa state government has announced it has treated more than 86,000 children in the state for malnutrition. Lawal Abdu, secretary to the state government, stated this while inaugurating a technical committee on food and nutrition in state.
According to him, the mass treatment which was carried out in conjunction with several non-governmental organizations was aimed at eradicating malnutrition in the state.
"With the help of development partners such as ACH International,
UNICEF, MSF (Doctors without Boarder) Working to Improve Nutrition in
Northern Nigeria (WINNN), we have been able to tackle issues of severe
malnutrition in selected communities in the state, and over 86,000
children have been cured in the past 2 years," he said.
He urged members of the new committee to strive and work with
the partnering organizations in the
planning and implementation of all food and nutrition programmes in the
state.
How I wish the agriculture improves for not only the sub-Saharan areas of Africa, but also the whole of the continent. This will address the malnutrition for the region.
