An expert has decried Nigerian government's continual wastage of resources in its fight against malaria. Dr. Demola Onakomaiya, noted that while more than US$12 billion has been spent by the Nigerian government in the management of malaria, the nation only needs US$1 billion to totally eradicate the pandemic in Nigeria.
Onakomaiya who is the secretary of FCTA's Health and Social Services Secretariat, stated this while speaking to newsmen in Abuja on the challenges militating against Nigeria's health sector. He also spoke extensively on the successes recorded in the sector.
In spite of the millions of dollars spent annually on the fight against malaria in Nigeria, the disease continues to be a leading cause of maternal and child mortality with negative impacts on education, social lifestyles and the economy.
