World Bank announces grant opportunities in population and reproductive health

The World Bank has announced grant opportunities in support of innovative ways to stimulate and sustain local responses to population and reproductive health needs.  

According to a statement issued by the global organization, it said through the programme, it has been able to support more 180 organizations for grass-roots level action in addressing the critical issues of population, reproductive, and child health.

Application details are as stated below.

 
The Population and Reproductive Health Capacity Building Program works with development partners and countries working in the health sector through organizations such as NGOs, think tanks and academic institutions to actively engage and leverage grassroots activities in the development and implementation of their strategies, programs and projects in one or more of the following areas:
  1. Supporting community and peer groups in responding to reproductive health needs,
  2. Piloting new approaches for improving access to and provision of services related to reproductive, maternal and child health,
  3. Carrying out small-scale operations research,
  4. Facilitating transfer of technology (including dissemination of relevant materials)
  5. Building local organizational capacity and networks, and
  6. Furthering the participation of community-based organizations in major global and regional conferences and initiatives.
The PRHCBP is now accepting proposals for the FY14 round from institutions that work on one or more of the following themes:
  • maternal and child mortality and morbidity,
  • family planning, access and choice
  • reproductive health care and services of adolescents
  • gender-based violence in relation to population and reproductive health
  • gender equity, participation and inclusion
Note: The PRHCBP encourages new ideas and activities. Previous grant recipients are therefore encouraged to apply for funding of new ideas and activities. FY14 is last year of PRHCBP funding.
Selection Process and Criteria Finalists are selected through a two stage review process. Stage 1 is the current call for concept notes. Selected semi-finalists are invited to submit full proposals in Stage 2. All complete concept note submissions from qualifying organizations are reviewed. Successful applicants in Stage 1 are invited to submit full proposals for consideration in Stage 2 of the review. Finalists are selected by a multi-disciplinary review committee. Grants will be awarded only after finalists receive clearance from legal and financial management team of the DGF.
The following criteria will be employed when accessing concept notes and proposals:
  • The project contributes to at least one of the Population and Reproductive Health Capacity Building Program objectives and the Bank’s Reproductive Health Action Plan.
  • The objectives and planned activities will promote and reinforce partnerships with key players in the development arena while bolstering capacity at local, national and/or international levels.
  • The project is innovative, of sound design and has significant value-added. If it has been piloted then it needs to be accompanied by proof of concept.
  • The project has to focus on achieving results, and its outcome objectives have to be succinct, measurable, and realistic given the resources available and the one year grant period.
  • The proposal’s monitoring and evaluation component is linked to the results that organization wishes to achieve.
  • The budget has minimal administrative costs, not to exceed 7% of the total World Bank funding request.
  • The organization has developed an explicit disengagement strategy from PRHCBP funding, especially if it has received prior funding from this program.
  • The PRHCBP supports civil society organizations including local and international NGOs, as well as think tanks and academia.
  • Grants may be requested for up to US$ 100,000/- for a period of 1 year.
Submission Requirements Concept note applications must include the following to be considered complete:
  1. Completed concept note (in the provided template-see section: How to Apply)
  2. Proof of registration for the organization (such as articles of incorporation, registration certificate).
  3. Audited financial statements for the last two years.
If selected to Stage 2 of the review, finalists will have to provide the following:
  1. Full proposal (templates and detailed instructions will be provided).
  2. Organization’s Financial Manual
  3. Past PRHCBP grant recipients will also need to submit interim/final activities and financial reports.
  4. A valid Bank account number in the name of the organization applying for the grant.
  5. Additional supporting documents may be requested as required.
Once selected for the grant, finalists will have 60 days to provide any remaining supporting documents. All documents must be provided in the English language.
