Researchers at Stanford University in USA have announced that infertility in men could significantly increase an individual's risk of developing several types of cancer including cancers of the brain, prostate, and testicles. They added that infertility also significantly increases the risks for developing melanoma and lymphoma.
In the study, more than 2000 men below the age of 35 years were recruited at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston between 1989 and 2009, all of them were infertile and were receiving treatment. Out of the recruits, about 450 were diagnosed with azospermia (total absence of sperm cells in their semen).
Out of the patients, 29 developed cancer within the study period with higher incidence found in individuals diagnosed with azospermia.
Speaking on the result, Michael Eisenberg, an assistant urology professor at Stanford Hospital and Clinics suggested that infertility could be used an indicator of male health status.
"There is evidence that infertility may be a barometer for men's overall health," Eisenberg said.
This is very true since factors that affect infertility on men are increasing and evolving in harmful ways. According to a study done by Dr. Mercola about saw palmetto supplement many factors are affecting infertility. Some of them are those men who lacks physical activities, taking for granted on their body's limitations on radiation and pollution and last but not the least is by having a very poor diet.
