Nigeria tackles medical tourism with duty-free medical equipment importation

Nigeria's president, Goodluck Jonathan has announced the importation of medical equipment to Nigeria is now duty-free. The president stated this in Abuja while speaking at the official commissioning of Lifebridge Medical Diagnostic Centre.

Represented by the nation's minister for health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, the president said the move was an incentive to attract more investors to the nation's health sector.

With the importation now duty-free, the president said investors would be able to import the various state-of-the-art equipment to Nigeria and when such are installed in the nation's various health facilities, they would help in significantly reducing the number of Nigerians that travel out of the country in search of qualitative healthcare.
