House Commences Investigations Into The Management Of HIV/AIDS Funds

Nigeria's House of Representatives has commenced investigations into the management of funds earmarked for tackling HIV/AIDS pandemic in Nigeria.


Speaking at the opening session of the tribunal set up by the house to investigate how the funds are managed, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tambuwal stated that the tribunal was not set up for witch-hunting purposes.

According to him, the goal is to ensure and promote transparency in addition to improve access to medical facilities for the treatment and management of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. 

He described the tribunal as timely due to the rise in the number of organizations and individuals that are involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Nigeria. 

"There is a need to promote accountability amongst all involved as this will definitely help to boost the confidence of donor agencies," he said.

He noted that collaborations are needed in order to effectively combat the scourge of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

He said: “This investigative hearing is a first step toward making our people more informed on how resources are applied to car for those infected or affected by the disease and how to also make things better so that everyone can have access to quality HIV care and treatment in our nation regardless of their socio-economic status. That is the essence of this committee and that is our responsibility to our people.” 

He urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the committee in order to realize the objectives of the investigative public hearing. He also appreciated and commended them for their contributions in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
