The Population Council has announced it would be offering scholarships to Young Nigerians who will be attending the International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA) holding in South Africa in December 2013.
The fund for scholarship the council stated was provided through the Ford Foundation's Towards More Informed Responses to the HIV/AIDS Vulnerabilities of Nigeria’s Youth Project. In a statement made available to HealthNewsNG.com, the council said the announcement is for young Nigerian volunteers or those working on youth and HIV-related projects and will be attending the conference to present their abstracts at the Cape Town event.
"Through the Ford Foundation funded Towards More Informed Responses to
the HIV/AIDS Vulnerabilities of Nigeria’s Youth Project, there is
available funding for the sponsorship of young Nigerians who
volunteer/work on youth and HIV-related projects to attend and present
abstracts at the upcoming ICASA which will be held in Cape Town, South
Africa from December 7th – 11th, 2013," the council stated.
Applicants are expected to be young Nigerians below the age of 35 years, have experience working or volunteering in HIV/AIDS and sexual and reproductive health projects, and must have a youth and HIV focused abstract accepted for presentation at the ICASA in December 2013. Other criteria include participants' willingness to participate in an experience sharing workshop to be held in Abuja upon their return to Nigeria.
