Nigerian pharmacists accuse health minister of favoritism

Olumide Akintayo, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), has accused the Nigerian minister for health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu of favoring doctors over healthcare professionals. He stated this in a chat with Guardian.

Responding to the directive issued by the health minister ordering all striking professionals to resume work immediately, he said he (the minister) would never say that to his colleagues (doctors).
“The fundamental issue is that there is no equity in the health sector. It is not right for the minister to ask the health workers to go back to work when the issues they raised have not been addressed. If we were his professional colleagues, doctors, he would not have said that," Akintayo said.

He added that members of JOHESU will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the inequity in the health sector is brought to the attention of the general public.

He said: “We should do everything possible to make sure that consumers of health should not continue to suffer. How can we do this? It is to ensure equity, for as long as there is discriminatory treatment we shall continue to contend with strikes and distortions in health services."
