Nigerian health professionals embark on indefinite strike

The Nigerian National Union of Pharmacists, Medical Scientists and Professionals Allied to Medicine (NUAHP) has declared an indefinite strike due to the inability of the federal ministry of health to meet its demands.

In a statement signed by the national president of the union, Comrade Felix Faniran; General Secretary, O. C. Ogbonna; and other executive members, the union said it gave the ministry an ultimatum but failed to address the issues. It added that the ultimatum was further extended by 15 days, yet the government failed to take any step aimed at averting the impending strike.

“Therefore, the union has no alternative than to declare an indefinite strike. The national secretariat, therefore, directs all units, states and geopolitical zones of NUAHP to proceed on industrial action as from 8.00 a.m. of 16 August, 2013," the union stated..
