The
West African Health Organization (WAHO) has announced it is accepting applications from qualified individuals for its Young Professional Internship below.

The
West African Health Organization (WAHO) is a specialized agency of the Economic
Community of West African States (ECOWAS) with headquarters in Bobo-Dioulasso,
Burkina Faso. WAHO strives for the attainment of the highest possible standard
and protection of health of the people in the West Africa sub-region, through
the harmonization of the policies of Member States, pooling of resources,
cooperation with one another and with others for a collective and strategic
combat against the health problems of the sub-region.
YPIP(Young
Professional Intership Programme) is a training programme of the Division of
Human Resource Development of WAHO. The programme was developed in 2005 by WAHO
and its partner USAID in recognition of the lack of adequate human resource for
health in the West African sub-region. The goal of the programme is therefore
to: “provide young professionals
with knowledge, practical skills and experience for sustainable management of
health issues in West Africa.” The programme is currently on
its 8th batch and has so far trained 89 young
professionals from across the sub-region.
If you want to pursue a career in
public health and you meet the criteria below, then you should consider
becoming a YPIP intern.
- West African Citizen
- Higher Education Degree
- Relevant Public Health Experience
- Basic computer skills
- Fluency in at least one official ECOWAS language; knowledge of a second language is an advantage

All
applicants must be citizens of ECOWAS member countries, must be available
throughout the 12 month period and should have:
(1) obtained a university
degree or equivalent within the past five years.
(2) fluency in reading
and writing of at least one official ECOWAS language (English, French,
Portuguese). Knowledge of a second language would be an advantage.
(3) basic competence in
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
(4) Not be more 35
(thirty five) years old by 31st December 2012.

Process of Selection
Applications received before the
closing date and which meet the following criteria will be considered at this
phase:
1. Complete documents in accordance
with the advertisement
a) Letter of application.
b) CV updated.
c) Photocopy National Passport or
National Identity card or Birth certificate.
d) Photocopies of Certificates.
e) Letter of motivation.
f) Three names
of reference.
2. A University level or an equivalent
professional qualification in Health (ex: SRN/SRM, IDE/TSO and this at least 3
years after the SS3 or BAC).
3. A citizen of West Africa.
4. The qualification dates is not less
than December 2007.
