Osun chapter of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has announced it will be hosting a CPD course accredited by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (AMLSN) on Tuesday August 6, 2013.
In an exclusive chat with HealthNewsNG, the chairman of the organizing committee, Adeyeye Adetunji Tam said the theme is "Medical Laboratory Science: Research and Medico-legal issue."
"The goal is to improve the knowledge and skills of participants for better service delivery, research and publication," Tam said.
According to him, three astute and proven resource persons will be anchoring the various sub-themes which are: Research design and implementation in medical laboratory science; Ethical practice in medical laboratory science and Medico-legal issues in medical laboratory science.
On the quality of previously held CPD courses, he said they are satisfactory although more could still be done to attain acceptable standards.
He said: "They've been satisfactory but we can do more in critical areas to ensure we truly meet the standards and the aims of putting it up."
According to him, a satisfactory and acceptable CPD course is "the one that has all the essentials of good CPD. Starting with the
topics not just any topic but the one that will answer some salient
questions in the profession or the society."
Concerning the chapter's forthcoming CPD course, he said the sub-themes were selected based on the inability of many scientists to transform data into published research works.
"As medical laboratory scientists, we generate lots of data from our daily activities yet we can't
use it to answer research questions. Also as scientists, we are at the center of
many pathological cases like forensic situations. Having noticed this
lacuna, all we need do as an organization is to fix it hence the need
for this workshop," he told HealthNewsNG.
He added that the course is not restricted to medical laboratory scientists but is also open to other professionals.
"All medical professionals can attend, as long as you belong to the health sector and also believe in research," he said.
The resource persons are Augustine Onyeangala, of the Department of Chemical
Pathology, University College Hospital Ibadan, Oyo state, Agunlejika R A, Head, School
