Possible First case of Ebola under investigation in Nigeria

Investigations are currently underway to identify a possible first case of the deadly Ebola virus in Lagos Nigeria.

According to Reuters, Liberian man in his 40s is being tested for the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria's commercial capital of Lagos, a megacity of 21 million people, the Lagos State Health Ministry said on Thursday.

Ebola has killed 632 people across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since an outbreak began in February, straining a string of weak health systems despite international help.

This would be the first recorded case of one of the world's deadliest diseases in Nigeria, Africa's biggest economy and most populous nation, with 170 million people and some of Africa's least adequate health infrastructure.

Social media broadcast are already being circulated to inform Nigerians to stay away from the suspected hospital.

One of such messages that were made available to HealthNewsNG.com read thus: ‎

Please, do not go near First Consultants hospital in Obalende, Lagos State! The first case of Ebola Virus has been reported there. A Liberian was said to have come to Nigeria with it. FYI: Ebola is deadlier than AIDS!!!Please. Kindly forward to others as I did. Got dis info from a doctor.
