Oyo state treats over 500,000 residents through free medical scheme

Oyo state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has announced the state government has treated more than 500,000 people through its free healthcare scheme. He said this while speaking earlier today (Monday) at the ongoing Oyo State Economic Summit.

According to the governor, the beneficiaries were treated for various forms of ailments ranging from headaches to major surgeries to correct hernia. This he said is in line with his administration's mission of taking healthcare to the doorsteps of the citizens of the state.

He also announced that the state government has procured locally made and imported ambulances for various purposes.

"The locally made ones are helping in reducing the mortality due to child birth and violence especially gunshot injuries," the governor said.

He added that through the support of partnering organisations such as the World Bank and the World Health Organization (WHO), the state government's efforts in the fight against malaria had received major boost with the free distribution of insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and others.

He also mentioned the recent recruitment of more than 5,000 medical professionals who had been assigned to state's various health facilities to improve healthcare service delivery.

Ajimobi said: "We've also introduced public-private partnership (PPP) in the management of our healthcare facilities; mobile clinics are being fully deployed for regular treatment and we are increasing our support for women living with HIV/AIDS."
