Bauchi state government built 550 health centres in 3 years

Isa Yuguda, governor of Bauchi state, northern Nigeria has revealed that between 2011 and 2013, the state government  built 550 healthcare centers with the goal of increasing access to healthcare facilities.

Speaking at the opening of a newly built 30-bed capacity primary healthcare centre  in Kundak, Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, he said out of the 550 health centres, 400 are primary healthcare centres, while 150 are maternity centres.

He also announced the recruitment of 200 health personnel who have been posted to the various health centres to improve healthcare delivery in those areas.

He said: "We will not relent in our effort to ensure that every community, especially rural areas in the state, have access to healthcare services.

"We will continue to ensure that we fulfill our promises by meeting the yearnings of our people. This is because health is paramount to the development of every society."

Commenting, Dr Nassir Umar, executive chaairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency commended the state government for improving the health status of the people.

He said improving access to health care services will go a long way in ensuring a healthy population for economic development.

He also enjoined community leaders to monitor and ensure that all government facilities located in their localities were properly maintained.
