Perry John Calderwood, Canada's High Commissioner to Nigeria has said his nation will continue to support Nigeria in strengthening its healthcare sector.
He said this in Abuja while on a courtesy Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu.
Calderwood said Nigeria is Canada’s reliable ally and a very important partner. Over the years, he said Canada has supported Nigeria in a number of ways.
He said that the purpose of his visit was to discuss health issues and expand bilateral relations between the two countries, adding that his country would help to address challenges in Nigeria’s health sector.
He said that the area of focus will be to address maternal and child health, polio and malaria, among other issues.
Earlier, the Minister of Health, Prof.Onyebuchi Chukwu said that Nigeria has been working with Canada in the area of primary healthcare particularly the Saving One Million Lives Initiative. While assuring of Nigeria’s continued cooperation, he thanked the Canadian Government for funding some of Nigeria’s projects not only in health sector but also in other areas through its various development agencies.
