Young Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria recently concluded its national delegates
meeting in Benue state. The meeting featured deliberations on the creation and strengthening of a stronger
Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN).
The meeting was held
at the Federal Medical Centre Makurdi, Benue State with delegates from different parts of the country.
The delegates received the sad news of the demise of one of its member Chalice Chama Ruben and a minute silence was observed on his behalf.

They adopted YMLSN
which stands for Young Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria as the official
name of the association and adopted membership of the association to be for
Medical Laboratory Scientists who are below 40 years or are below the rank of
principal Medical Laboratory Scientist or are 10 years post induction.
The delegates saluted
the courage and show of comradeship by all its members who participated in
their recent rally in Abuja to bring to call attention to some of the injustices faced by
the profession.
They also voted and
adopted a five man interim Executive member comprising - (Odia Osamudiamen
Daniel- President, Okoro Onyebuchi - Secretary, Aisha Barde- Treasurer,Oshowo
Henry- PRO, Emmanuel Nnadi- Financial Secretary) and zonal coordinators (Adole
- North Central, Chiladi South- South, Akachukwu South East, Akinbo Bolaji
South West) and state coordinators with specified terms of reference.
After exhaustive and
very productive deliberations, the delegates reached very important resolutions which include:
1. That the EEP rally should be consolidated by paying more advocacy visits for the early release of the circular as promised.
2. That a state of emergency be declared on the Nigerian Medical Laboratory Science Students association (NIMELSSA) with a view of enhancing and renewing the association.
3.That a mentorship programme channeled towards indoctrinating the core values of the profession be adopted and introduced into the association.
4. That the emotional
intelligence and psychology of members be built/ worked upon towards achieving
positive results.
5. That the brand of the profession be improved upon.
6. That members be encouraged and supported to play active roles in politics.
