Nigeria to spend more on presidential clinic's elite wing than on two federal teaching hospitals

The federal government of Nigeria will spend more money on the construction of an elite wing of the presidential clinic in Aso Rock Abuja than it would spend on the entire developmental projects of two federal university teaching hospitals.


This was revealed in the proposed 2014 budget before the National Assembly.

The proposed Aso Rock project, many Nigerians believe will only be used by a few "big and mighty".

Under the proposed 2014 budget laid to the National Assembly last December, the “Construction of a VIP Wing at the State House Clinic will cost N705 million.”

That amount surpasses the government’s budgeted cost for the building of new wards (buildings), laboratories and all other developmental projects in two university teaching hospitals.

This has attracted widespread public condemnation with many Nigerians querying the loyalty and priority of Nigeria's president Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
