The government of Bauchi state in northern Nigeria has announced it is aiming to reduce maternal and infant mortality in the state with the distribution of some life-saving drugs to its primary healthcare centers (PHC). This was announced by Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency.
The Chairman of the agency, Dr Nasir Umar told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the drugs being distributed were Chlorohixidine gel and Mistoprostol tablets.
He said the drugs have so far been distributed in five Local Government areas in the state, adding that the agency would soon complete the distribution to the other selected health centres across the state.
“In each LGA, Primary Healthy centres were identified and selected and so far the five LGAs have received the medicines. The agency distributed 200 chlorohexidine gel and 200 Mistoprostol tablets to each of the LGAs.
“The local governments include Alkaleri with 19 PHCs, Toro 17 PHCs, Itas Gadau 16 PHCs, Ningi 18 PHCs and Zaki 18 PHCsl.
“Tally sheets and check books were also provided to health service providers for accountability as well as record keeping, ‘’he said.
