Expert decries non-existence of e-health policy in Nigeria

An expert has declared that Nigeria has a long way to go concerning e-health in Nigeria. This was part of the revelations made at the first Nigeria e-health summit held in Lagos with speakers and participants focusing on how to leverage the private sector.


In his opening remarks, the chairman of the session on "Understanding current e-health ecosystem in Nigeria and the role of the private sector in harnessing potential opportunities to improve health for all Nigerians"

Adekunle Ajiboye from Aaji Matics emphasised the unique nature of the Nigerian health sector. He said while other sectors can easily apply technology, the Nigerian health sector is very complex and technology cannot be easily applied.

He identified healthcare delivery and administration present challenges for the proponents of e-health in Nigeria.

He said Nigeria does not have a policy on e-health, according to him the nation only has a plan.

"Nigeria does not have an e-health policy, just a plan. The nation needs a mainstream policy in partnership with the private sector," he said.
