China partners African nations on sustainable solutions to health challenges

China is collaborating with African nations and other stakeholders to identify sustainable solutions to various health challenges. 

Under the agreement, China will assist African nations in bolstering human resources capacity and will provide support for domestic manufacturing capacity. Furthermore, China will help in increasing access to low-cost, high-quality health products.

Commenting on the partnership, Margret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization said the partnership is a manifestation of China's long partnership with Africa.

“The decades of collaboration between China and Africa has long been characterised by friendship and goodwill. China is now a significant force in Africa’s development, with substantially increased commitments and engagements. This is a south-to-south model of development cooperation based on mutual interests and respect," Chan said.

Commenting on behalf of other African health ministers, Hon. Awa Coll-Seck, Minister of Health of Senegal said both parties (China and Africa) have similar experiences and vision for a brighter and healthier future for all their citizens.

The minister said: “China and African countries have enjoyed strong and effective partnerships on health for half a century, based on our common experiences and our shared vision for a brighter and healthier future for all our citizens.

“The Beijing Declaration solidifies our governments’ commitments to developing and implementing Africa-led strategies that drive sustainable health progress and improve the lives of people across the continent."
