World Tuberculosis Day 2014: Lancet provides free access to quality resources


As the world joins today to mark the World Tuberculosis Day 2014, concerted efforts are being made by various governments and agencies to combat the disease caused by various strains of mycobacteria but most commonly Mycobacterium tuberculosis.


It is one of the most common co infections associated with HIV infection and a leading cause of mortality in those infected.

As part of it's contributions, Lancet, the world's leading general medical and specialty journal made provided access to various resources on the disease.

According to an executive summary on the journals website, the disease was declared a global emergency in 1993 by the WHO. 21 years after this declaration, the disease remains a serious and considerable threat to global health. For World TB Day 2014, The Lancet group joins the call for a global effort to find, treat, and cure all people with tuberculosis.
