Ms. Yeni Kuti, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of The New Afrika Shrine and daughter of the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti has described Nigerian leaders as bad examples whose lives are not worthy of emulation by Nigerian youths.
She stated this while delivering a keynote address on "Understanding Fela, his music and message to the Youth” in Benin as part of celebrations marking this year's edition of the International Youth Day.
The event was organized by the Women’s Health and Action Research Centre (WHARC).
She said corruption has permeated every aspect of the nation and change is difficult since corrupt government officials are walking freely on the streets.
“Nigerian Leaders are very bad examples, it’s of great importance that today’s generation is constantly reminded of good values that propelled our national heroes which are fast degenerating,” she said.
Concerning Fela, she said he lived a life that could inspire youths all over the world to be hardworking and courageous.
She said: “I think Fela’s life and music should inspire young Africans to always work hard, be courageous, and be willing to stand for the truth at all situations."
The event also marked the official launch of WHARC Youth Forum and presentation of prizes to winners of the international youth day essay contest organized by WHARC
