The government of Kano state in northern Nigeria has announced the approval of a 7% increase in the salaries of health workers in the state beginning from February 2014. It said the increase is in the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS).
In a statement released by Mustapha Fagge, Public Relations Officer in the office of the Head of Service, the Head of Service of Kano state, Alhaji Umar Minjibir, announced the increase while signing an agreement between the state government and the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU).
He said the government of the state would continue to make more funds available to ensure the continual provision of infrastructure to health institutions in the state.
In his remark, Ahmed Gana, Chairman of JOHESU in the state said health workers in Kano state will re-dedicate themselves to their duties as a way of reciprocating the government's kind gesture.
"Our union decided to embrace dialogue in order to ensure amicable resolution of the crisis between us and government instead of embarking on strike," Gana said.
